For #IWD2024, Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership (CISL) asked women from across their community on LinkedIn who or what is inspiring them to make a difference in the world.

The person I chose to celebrate is Kenyan political activist, Wangari Maathai. The first black African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. I wanted to celebrate her for two reasons: firstly, her courage and tenacity, and secondly, the power of her ‘why’ we need to act today on the environment. She said it’s because it is the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat, and we cannot live without those things. It’s certainly a powerful motivator for me.
